The principle of an ordanairy coilgun is as follows. When electricity is put on a coil, the coil will generenate a magnetic field. Behind the coil a projectile is placed: a piece of iron. Because of the high current in the coil a current is induced in the projectile. So the iron will become a magnet that is sucked in the coil because of the magnetic field. If you do that with more coils you can easily accelerate a bullet. |
